Gears of War 2 - Unreal Engine Tech Demo

Gears of War 2 has been announced and it’s planned released is sometime in November 2008 barring any delays or unforseen problems. The team at Epic Games is hard at work on sequel to one of the biggest games of the current gaming generation especially in online multiplayer on Xbox Live and as expected many gamers are excited. Below is a video of the a tech demo of some of the tools available to the design team working on Gear of War 2.

According to Major Nelson these were the top 10 played games on Xbox live for the entire year of 2007.

1) Halo 3
2) Gears of War
3) Call of Duty 4
4) Rainbow Six Vegas
5) Call of Duty 3
6) Crackdown
7) Oblivion
8 ) Guitar Hero II
9) Forza 2
10) Lost Planet

No surprise with th top 2 games as they were also very popular games here at the Area 51 Video games arcade.

With all the big named games dropping this year i wonder which 10 games will be most popular for 2008.

Super-slim PlayStation 3 coming later this year

Officially it is a rumor but with the lackluster performance of the Playstation 3 so far compared to it’s predecessors and current competitors it’s the best move that will allow them to perform better in the current console wars. More Info at E3?……lets hope.

The Current Playstation 3 model

The New PS3 will be much slimmer and weigh a lot less than the current model. That’s not hard to believe - the PS3 is physically the biggest PlayStation console Sony has ever built. It’s also the heaviest, so the benefits from such a move are obvious. (more…)

The PlayStation 3 is the third video game console of the PlayStation brand from Sony Computer Entertainment. It is the successor to the highly successful PlayStation 2. The PlayStation 3 competes with Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and Nintendo’s Wii as part of the seventh generation of video game consoles. Sony officially unveiled the PlayStation 3 to the public on May 16, 2005, during the 2005 E3 conference.

The console was released on November 11, 2006, in Japan; November 17, 2006, in the United States. In response to Microsoft’s Xbox Live network, Sony announced a unified online service for the PlayStation 3 console in 2006. Sony has confirmed that the service will be always connected, free and include multiplayer support. The PS3’s 3.2 GHz Cell processor, developed jointly by Sony, Toshiba and IBM, is an implementation to dynamically assign physical processor cores to do different types of work independently.

Nintendo Wii Information

Nintendo states that its console targets a broader demographic than that of Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and Sony’s PlayStation 3,but it competes with both as part of the seventh generation of gaming systems. A distinguishing feature of the console is its wireless controller, the Wii Remote, which can be used as a handheld pointing device and can detect motion and rotation in three dimensions. Another is WiiConnect24, which enables it to receive messages and updates over the Internet while in standby mode.

Nintendo first mentioned the console at the 2004 E3 press conference and later unveiled the system at the 2005 E3. In the 2006 E3, the console won the first of several awards.By December 8, 2006, it completed its launch in four key markets.

Microsoft Xbox 360 Information

The Xbox 360 is a video game console produced by Microsoft, developed in cooperation with IBM, ATI, Samsung, and SiS. Its Xbox Live service allows players to compete online and download arcade games and content such as game demos, trailers, TV shows, music videos, or rented movies. The Xbox 360 is the successor to the Xbox, and it competes with Sony’s PlayStation 3 and Nintendo’s Wii as part of the seventh generation of gaming systems.

The Xbox 360 was officially unveiled on MTV on May 12, 2005, with detailed launch and game information divulged later that month at the Electronic Entertainment Expo. It is the first console to provide near-simultaneous launch across the three major regions, and to provide wireless controller support at launch. The console sold out completely at release and by end of 2006 had shipped 10.4 million units worldwide.
